Epson is a company at the forefront in projector technology. The new 6010 3-chip LCD projector is a stunning addition to the 2012 lineup. This 3 chip LCD projector is 3D ready with several new technological advancements to assist 3D movies. The majority of projectors for home cinema use have between 800-1300 lumens of light output. The Epson 6010 has a whopping 2400 lumens. This provides a dynamic contrast ratio up to 200,000:1. THX certification ensures the proper color rendition and near cinema like black levels. An addition to the THX mode, ISF calibration is available to adjust settings. The native resolution of the projector is 1920x1080 (1080p).
When viewing 3D movies in a theater, on a television , or in a front projection home theater, light is cut by almost 50% when the glasses are on. Putting on 3D glasses to watch a movie is equivalent to putting on sunglasses on a bright sunny day. Epson has solved this issue by first providing 2400 lumens of light output. Next, they have introduced a new feature called "3D Drive Technology". The projector refreshes at 480Hz effectively allowing more light to pass through per frame. The 3D performance on this projector is spectacular. The image brightness is noticeably reduced in 3D mode on most projectors. Not on the 6010. With the additional boost in light output, movies in 2D mode ranging from Avatar to animated classics like Toy Story, brought out all of the nuances missed on previous generation projectors. Black levels were deep. Color rendition was phenomenal. Contrast ratio rivaled that of the best televisions on the market.
Epson includes a Chief mounting bracket, 2 pairs of 3D glasses, and a replacement lamp. The E-TORL lamp can last up to 5000 hours. Most projectors have an effective lamp life of up to 1500-2500 hours. Additional features include 2D-3D conversion which works well. In addition to the standard 16x9 (1.78:1) aspect ratio the projector can project 2.35:1 anamorphic content via an optional anamorphic lens. Inputs and control include 2 HDMI 1.4a, component video, composite video, VGA PC input, RS-232C control, and Trigger Out.
