YouTube movie rental service

by Abe Abrahamian---5-10-11

YouTube launched a movie rental channel in 2010. They have recently added over 3000 movies to the service. With over 2 billion views a day and the service available on more than 350 million devices this is a major move by Google.  Unfortunately, we do not know the resolution of the content available for streaming.  Google's YouTube service can support up to 4K resolution. Most of the movie studios will only allow SD content or 720P/1080p resolutions. Services from Netflix, Hulu, and Vudu will complete with this new service. Is it the end of the physical disc medium? Discuss below the future of online movie rental services.
